Art making is a business—at least if the goal is to sell your work. Indeed, whether they know it (or like it) or not, artists face many legal and business issues that affect them and their work in significant ways. These include, for example, questions regarding taxes, copyrights, gallery agreements, licenses, and marketing. This presentation provides a broad overview of some of those issues, which will be addressed in greater detail later in the year. More specifically, it discusses certain business forms, such as corporations, partnerships, LLPs, and LLCs, and the advantages and disadvantages of using them for your art business.
